Oakland: Vera Alice (French) McDaniel, 82, of Oakland, Maine went home to be with her Lord and Savior on the morning of March 10th, 2024, at her home with her devoted soul mate of 64 years by her side after battling a long illness.
Vera was born in Oakland, Maine on April 15th, 1941, and raised in the town of Weeks Mills. She was the fifth child and second daughter of Evelyn and Roy French. Vera was part of a very large family with six brothers and three sisters, though Lena French died before Vera was born. From a very young age Vera and her siblings were raised in the ways of the Lord, her Father was a Church of God Pastor and Vera carried that love of the Lord throughout her entire life, even up to the moment He called her home.
In her teenage years she met the love of her life, Gary L. McDaniel and they were married on January 2nd 1960. Vera and Gary went on to have a large family of their own, having six children together. They created a beautiful life with the Lord at the center.
Vera absolutely loved being outdoors. You could almost guarantee when you pulled up on a nice day to their home in Oakland, Maine that she would be sitting out on the porch just enjoying all the sun and fresh air she could, and of course wearing her signature sun hat.
In the last year of her life she mimicked her truck driving brothers and husband in the sense that she always wanted to ride the roads; whether it was one ride or five, it always ended at the Ice Cream Shoppe!
Vera was preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn and Roy French; sisters Lena French and Shirley (French) Marston, four brothers, Leslie French, Vivan French, Ivan French and Percy French; and her first-born son Gary Lucien McDaniel Jr.
Vera is survived by her loving husband Gary Lucien McDaniel Sr.; her five children, Patricia DeBerry, Pamela Doyon and husband Peter, Gene McDaniel and wife Ellen, Raymond McDaniel and wife Brenda, Lisa McDaniel and partner Darin; sister Ruth (French) Stewart and brothers Ronald French and wife Debbie, Robert French and wife Kathy; 20 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. All of these as well as a multitude more of family, friends and her Church family will miss her greatly. As one of her favorite gospel songs says, "We've got more to go to Heaven for then we did yesterday"! We know she made it to the Heavenly Home that she so longed for and that one day we too can see her again if we choose Heaven as our Home.
A celebration of life will be held on April 13th, 2024, at 12 pm. Vera's home Church and Church Family, The Assembly of Truth Fellowship, would like to welcome any and all to join us in celebrating her wonderful life at The Asa Bates Memorial Chapel, 2 Ten Lots Road in Oakland, Maine.
Arrangements are in the care of Wheeler Funeral Home, 26 Church Street, Oakland where memories may be shared, and an online register book signed by visiting www.lawrybrothers.com.
