Obituary

Rome – Susan McAllister, 67, passed away peacefully with family by her side September 25th, 2024, at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta. She was born in Fitchburg, MA on April 30th, 1957, the daughter of Richard and Eileen (Richard) Shields. Suzie graduated from Fitchburg High School and remained a lifelong learner, pursuing continuing education in her field of Finance. Suzie worked for many years as the Finance Manager for Waterville housing until her retirement in 2019. In her free time, she enjoyed all things outdoors, such as hiking, cross country skiing, canoeing, concerts, camping, visiting lighthouses and traveling to new places, including her most recent adventure to New Zealand. She was incredibly creative, self-teaching herself many skills to enhance her home and create gifts for those she loved. Suzie adored her family and established the tradition of creating personalized, annual Christmas decorations that will be cherished for years to come. Suzie was an incredibly easy person to love, kind beyond measure and always thinking of others. Her gentle nature drew people toward her and, as a result, she was encircled by friends that could always count on her for celebration, support and companionship. Suzie held The Maine Medical Center's annual Walk for Hope dear to her heart and has unfailingly supported this cause by creating her own team and fundraising since 2014. Suzie is survived by her husband, Pete, of 31 years; their children Mike and his wife Amber, Kenn and his wife Jen; grandchildren Charli, Bodhi and Hollie; siblings predeceased brother Richie Shields, brother Steve Shields and his wife Jane, sister Kathy Miccile and her husband Joe; nieces and nephew Samantha, Annie, Harry, Maggie and Melissa and many, many close friends that loved her. There will be visiting from 10 to 11am on October 4th, followed by a service and reception at Wheeler Funeral Home 26 Church Street, Oakland, ME. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Walk of Hope for Team Suzie at https://classy.org/team/606826 scheduled for this Saturday, October 5, at the Augusta Civic Center, located at 76 Community Drive, Augusta, beginning at 8:30.
