OAKLAND- Stella Mae Swett, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026, at the age of 92.

Stella was predeceased by her beloved husband, Howard Swett; her parents, Vern and Margaret George; her brothers and sisters; and many close friends and relatives who held a special place in her heart.

For many years, Stella worked at Michaud’s Grocery Store in Oakland, where she made lifelong friendships and became a familiar and cherished part of the community. She treasured the relationships she made there and carried those friendships with her throughout her life.

One of Stella’s greatest joys was spending time at camp on Messalonskee Lake. Camp was a special place for her, a place filled with family, memories, laughter, and many happy days that will be remembered and treasured by those who shared them with her.

Stella is survived by her children, Alan and Valerie of Waterville, Brian of Oakland, and Jeff and Mary of Oakland; her grandchildren, Jason and Kaitlyn of Gloucester, Massachusetts, Justin and Liz of Truckee, California, and John Donahue of Gardiner; and her great-grandchildren, Molly, Zoey, Jayla, Finn, and Callen.

She is also survived by her special sister, Francis; many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members; and her best friend, Mackie Johnson, and Mackie’s family, who were very special to Stella.

Stella will be remembered for the love she gave her family, the friendships she built throughout her life, and the many memories she created with the people she loved. Her family will forever cherish the time they had with her and the lasting mark she left on their lives.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice team and the third-floor Dementia staff at Mount Saint Joseph’s Nursing Home in Waterville for the exceptional, compassionate, and above-and-beyond care they provided to Stella. Their kindness and dedication meant so much to Stella and her family during her time there.

Stella’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and in all the special moments shared around the lake, at camp, at work, and at home.
