We write this knowing that no amount of words would be able to desribe how loved Sonja was, nor how much she loved all of us.
Sonja was the first born of what was to be a very large family. As the typical oldest child, she was always the first person people went to for advice. Partly because everyone always knew where they stood with Sonja and she was always honest (sometimes brutally honest). She was born with a little gypsy blood running through her veins, and she truly never stayed in one spot for too long. She was a "carnie" traveling all over the state of New York in her younger adulthood, but also tried her hand in factory work and a caregiver. She bounced from New York, Florida, and Maine. In warmer months the grass didn't grow under her feet, and she would spend as much time camping in Dead River as she could, resulting in being away from "home" for sometimes weeks or months at a time. She lived the life everyone could hope to live, care free and wild for so many years and when life calmed down she reached to her faith for her next adventure.
She loved her family and once you became family (even for a little while) you were family for life. She loved more than anything being a mother, up until she became a NayNay. Her son and grandchildren (and over the last few years great grandchildren) were her pride and joy. And no one she ever came across could deny how much she cared for her loved ones.
Sonja was a fighter, and not an opponent anyone would want to stand against. She leaves us knowing that the only fight she ever lost in her whole life was the fight against cancer (but even cancer had to come back for a 3rd time before it won).
