Sherwood M. Peatfield II
OAKLAND- Sherwood "Pete" Murray Peatfield II, 75, of Oakland, passed away peacefully, December 20, 2024, at Glenridge Comfort Care in Augusta after a short illness.
He was born in Portland, July 21,1949, the son of Sherwood M. and T. Arlene (Small) Peatfield.
Sherwood was raised and educated in Waterville schools and graduated in 1968. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving in Germany. His time in the service allowed him to travel all over Europe, often accompanied by his beloved wife, Brenda (Mann) Peatfield, who he married on August 23, 1969.
After graduation, Sherwood worked at Central Maine Power, before joining the service. After honorable discharge from the service, he became employed at Scott Paper in Winslow, and then transferred to Sappi Paper Company in Skowhegan, where he retired from in 2007, after 30 years of employment. Sherwood was also very involved in his children's lives, whether it be coaching Little League, being a troop leader for Cub Scouts, and Boy Scouts or standing on the sidelines cheering them on in sports. He was an avid gardener, loved woodworking, doing DYI projects around the house and had a huge collection of Santa Clauses, that were displayed year-round. Sherwood spent most of his summers camping, he enjoyed the outdoors, the night sky and chatting with the "neighbors" over coffee.
Sherwood was predeceased by his parents; two infant sisters, Eilene and Susan; Brother in-law, David Barnes; and In-laws, Arthur and Verna Mann; nephew, Brian Mann; and niece, Kristy Mann.
Surviving family members include his wife, of 55 years, Brenda; Son, Robert Peatfield and his wife, Christine, and children, Katie Peatfield, Julia Cain, Nathalie Poulin, Gabby and Maddy Poulin; Son, Michael Peatfield and his wife, Stephanie, and children, Hailee Tower and Jackson Peatfield, Grampy's one and only grandson, who was very special; one daughter, Joanna "Jodie" Peatfield-Patterson and her husband, Jesse, and daughters, MacKenzie Peatfield, Reaghan Peatfield-Patterson, Amanda Patterson, Morgan Eastman and Nyari Lee; as well as two bonus daughters, Alisha (Michaud) Levine and Amber (Chartrand) Bigelow. In total he had eleven great grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sister, Sherlene Barnes; sister-in-law, Joyce Bedard and husband, William; brother-in-law, Eugene Mann; as well as several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visiting hours or service. A celebration of life may be held at a later date.
