Obituary

Roland B. Cote, 69, passed away while surrounded by his family on December 10, 2024, in Oakland, Maine. Born on February 27, 1955, in Brunswick, Maine, Roland spent his life deeply immersed in the natural beauty of his home state and the love of his family. Roland attended and graduated from Erskine Academy in South China, Maine in 1973. He married Katherine on November 21, 1998, and was a devoted husband for 26 years. Roland was a loving father to his daughters, Audrey Kathryn Nale and Shelby Robben Cote, and stepchildren, Sarah and Josh. His joy was multiplied as a grandfather to ten grandchildren. Having devoted many years to working in various positions such as woodcutter and truck driver, Roland ultimately retired from Oakland Public Works. He previously worked at Central Maine Power. Always a hard worker, his commitment to his work inspired his co-workers and friends over the years no matter where he worked. Roland had a passion for the outdoors that never wavered. His love for the outdoors was evident in his favorite activities, which included hiking, biking, kayaking, and especially camping at Acadia National Park—a place he cherished deeply. Roland and his wife, Katherine, enjoyed riding with the Back Country Jeeps club. Roland was also a member of the Messalonskee Trail Riders ATV Club. Another love of Roland's was attending live theatre events. The Waterville Opera House, Monmouth Theatre, and The Maine State Music Theatre were a few of Roland's favorite locations to attend events. Roland is survived by his wife, Katherine; his daughters, Audrey Kathryn Nale (married to Thomas J. Nale) and Shelby Robben Cote; his stepchildren, Sarah and Josh; ten grandchildren; and his sisters, Deborah Cote, Donna Cote, and Darlene Strout (married to Richard Strout). He was preceded in death by his brothers, Rodney and Rodger Cote, and his parents, Robert and Audrey Cote (Alexander). The family has entrusted Wheeler Funeral Home in Oakland, Maine, with the arrangements. Roland's life will be celebrated privately in accordance with his family's wishes. His passion for life and love for his family will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
