Norma
Nivison
Jan 11, 1946 — Sep 2, 2026
Norma Nivison was born on January 11, 1946, the daughter of Leland “Bud” and Maefred (Thomas) Thing. She attended Waterville High School, graduating with the Class of 1964. Norma went on to work at Thayer Hospital, where she dedicated nearly 40 years of her life before retiring in 2011.
In 1966, Norma married Melvyn D. Nivison. Together, they enjoyed many years of marriage and shared a number of adventures and special memories. They loved snowmobiling, taking long trips together on their trike, and accompanying Mel as he performed with his band, “The Entertainers.” Norma also enjoyed ceramics and was known for cooking wonderful holiday dinners for her family and extended family, creating traditions and memories that would be cherished for years to come.
Norma was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be remembered for the love she had for her family, the joy she found in spending time with those close to her, and the many memories she created throughout her life.
Norma was predeceased by her parents, Leland “Bud” and Maefred Thing; her beloved husband, Melvyn; and her sister, Nancy Thing.
She is survived by her daughter, Margo Nivison; her son, Kurt “Bubba” Nivison; her granddaughter, Sarah Briganti; her brother, Robert “Bob” Thing and his wife, Shirley; her brother-in-law, William “Bill” Nivison; her cousin, Charlene Mushero; and her lifelong friend, Paula Mitchell.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at D’Youville Manor for the excellent care they provided Norma over the past two years. They would also like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Norma’s loving roommate, Beverly Donahue, who made sure that “Big Boy” and “Princess” were always by Norma’s side.
The family will be holding a private burial in the coming weeks.
