MARLENE B. (ELLIS) CHAPMAN
1938-2022
BANGOR--Marlene B. (Ellis) Chapman, 84, passed away Friday April 29, 2022, at a Bangor Hospital.
Marlene was born in Waterville February 2, 1938. She was the daughter of Delbert and Myrtle (Johnston) Ellis. Marlene had three siblings, Blanche, Wilber, and Frances.
Marlene graduated from Winslow High School and worked as an executive secretary at Keyes Fiber (now Huhtamaki) in Waterville for 25 years before retiring.
While working, she met Stephen Chapman to whom she was married for 24 years before his passing. The couple lived in Benton, Maine. Stephen had six children from a previous marriage to whom Marlene became stepmother and then grandmother to their children.
Marlene was an active member of the Cooperative Extension for many years, participating in the Clinton Lions Club fair and parades. She also performed audits for KSW Federal Credit Union.
Marlene is survived by a nephew, Gary Merrithew, his wife, Donna, and Gary's children, Ric, and Ella Merrithew.
Marlene is also survived by her stepchildren, Becky (Chapman) Smith (pre-deceased), Stephen Chapman and his spouse, Kathy, Deborah Chapman and her spouse, Carol, Mark Chapman and his spouse, Gloria, Scott Chapman and his spouse, Elsa, and Jon Chapman; as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Marlene will be remembered for her great cooking, her vegetable gardening, and the love for her family.
A memorial service will be held at Wheeler Funeral Home at 21 Church Street in Oakland on
May 9, 2022, at 10 am. Burial will directly follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Oakland.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Marlene's memory to the Kennebec Cooperative Extension office at 125 State Street 3rd floor, Augusta, Maine 04330.
