Kathy Ann LaPlante of Belgrade passed away on August 19, after a brief battle with cancer. She was born in Waterville on February 6, 1964, to George and Adoree Ann Leighton. She graduated from Messalonskee HS in 1982 and cosmetology school in 1983. In 1986, Kathy married Todd LaPlante of Belgrade. Kathy and Todd went on to have 2 children, Colby and Halee. She ran several hair salons in her 30+ year career, making lasting friendships throughout the community. She enjoyed long rides to the ocean in her convertible and sunset boat rides on Long Pond. After retiring, Kathy resided in Mt. Vernon with her partner David Bryant. They enjoyed Ancient One's events as well as ice fishing through the winter. Kathy was predeceased by both her parents, George and Adoree Ann Leighton and father in law Walter LaPlante. She is survived by her children, Colby LaPlante & Halee Otting; her Grandson Walter Otting; as well as her siblings and their spouses, Jody & Steve Knox, Toby & Melissa Leightion, Todd & Dodie Leightion, Stan & Tiffany Quint. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews; Stevey Knox, Ashley Drake, Cale Knox, Emily Leightion, Allison Leighton, Tara Roudgride, Dustin Leightion, Christopher & Jordan LaPlante, Blair Final, Tyler and Brooke Beck. A celebration of life will be held at a date and time yet to be determined.
