Obituary

Joseph Anthony Wathen, born February 7, 2007 died unexpectedly on December 26, 2024. He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Gould, and stepfather, Mark Bressler, both of Oakland; his father, Randy Wathen of Norridgewock; his brothers Aiden Wathen and Owen Wathen; his sister Lydia Wathen; his Uncle Danny Gould; his Aunt Michelle and Uncle Josh Bickerman; his Aunt Cathy Upton; his Aunt Danielle Chrissman; Step Uncle Marty and Step Aunt Kellie Bressler; his Grammy Linnay; his Grampa Marcel; his Grampa Anthony and Grammy Heidi Gould; Step Grandparents Martin and Linda Bressler; Great Grammy Amy Wathen; and 11 cousins. Joseph had a big heart, always loving and caring for his family and others. He enjoyed nature and aspired to work in the field of biology. He liked to visit the zoo and aquarium and loved to fish and hike with family and friends all year round – no matter how hot or how cold. He climbed many of the area mountains, such as Mt. Blue, Tumbledown, Bald Mountain, French's Mountain, and Penobscot Mountain and South Bubble in Acadia National Park. He looked forward to ice fishing every year as soon as the lakes and ponds were frozen over. During most of his excursions, he took many memorable photos of birds and wild animals, including some of a fawn he stumbled upon one summer in the woods behind his home. The Viles Arboretum in Augusta was one of his favorite places to hike and take photos of nature. Joseph is greatly loved by all his family and will be greatly missed. "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort." "God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, the former things have passed away." II Corinthians 1:3: Revelation 21:4. A celebration of remembrance will be held at the Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm Street, Waterville, Maine on January 11, 2025 at 2:00 p.m., with a reception to follow at Centerpoint Community Church at 155 West River Road, Waterville, Maine.
