James Gerald Palmer, 62, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday November 20, 2024.
James was born in Waterville, Maine on March 13, 1962, the son of Stephen J. and Janice C. (Wiley) Palmer.
James was involved in Special Education throughout his school years and also participated in the Special Olympics. As an adult, he worked at Goodwill Industries.
James had many enriching experiences, including attending Pine Tree Camp, therapeutic horseback riding, going on a trip to Disney World, and meeting The Harlem Globetrotters. James enjoyed bowling, visiting farms to see the animals, music and parties, spending time in the water, coloring, jigsaw puzzles, and anything to do with Godzilla.
Most of all James loved meeting people, finding out who they were and he loved making connections with them. James was helped by many kind, caring staff and the providers throughout his life and he enjoyed special connections with many of them. Especially Sharon Hamlin and Emily Atkinson who generously shared their time with him.
James is predeceased by his father, Stephen.
James is survived by his devoted mother, Janice, his sister Diane, husband Paul Angelo; sister Carolyn (his twin), husband Steve LaVerdiere; sister Rebecca, husband Donald Watson. James is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Laura, Amy, Sarah, Emily, Tyler, Thomas, Edward, Taylor and Morgan.
The family would like to extend special thanks to James' Happy Haven Home and staff. He was truly happy there and found it a comfortable, accepting place to live.
Funeral services for James will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at the Pleasant Street United Methodist Church in Waterville. A visiting hour is scheduled from 1-2pm with the service at 2 pm. Burial will follow at the Lewis Cemetery in Oakland.
