Sidney: David Leighton Sr. 88, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Sidney surrounded by his two sons, David Jr. and Dwight. He was born April 24,1937 to George "Barney" and Gladys (Rushton) Leighton.
David graduated from Williams High School in Oakland, Class of 1956. He married the love of his life Jeannette Mitchell in 1960. He spent the next 64 years by her side enjoying each other to the fullest.
He enlisted in the US Army serving in Kentucky and Germany. He worked at Keyes Fiber for 33 years as a machinist and shift supervisor.
David Sr. and Jeannette loved to spend time at their camp on Moosehead Lake where they had many fond memories. The majority of their past time after retirement, included traveling, visiting all 50 states and numerous countries around the world, and many cruises making memories and friends along the way. Together they wintered in Acadia, Florida, where they had so many friends come to their porch for Happy Hour.
David was predeceased by his parents, his wife Jeannette, brother Podgie, sister Barbara, and grandson David III.
David is survived by his sons David Jr.; Dwight and his wife Theresa and grandchildren Katie Bridges and husband Jake of Morris CT; Dalton Leighton of Oakland; great grandchildren Hazel Bridges of Morris CT and Quinn and Vivian Leighton of Oakland.
A special heartfelt Thank You to Sarah Kimball, Inez Trahan, Maureen Moshier and Roger Carter for being there through out. We cannot Thank You enough.
There will be a Graveside Service at Longley Cemetery, 43 Lupine Lane, Sidney at 11:00am on Saturday, October 11, 2025. Immediately followed by a social hour at his home at the same address.
